The 5 Year Rule

Comments

Happy birthday Jes! That whole 'gifting yourself' thing has been going on for a couple of years in this house, to the extent of birthdays, my first mothers day, anniversaries, etc. So I've gotten wise, and in the past year I've purchased for myself: a new DSLR camera, an iPod, a Treo and my Powerbook.

Boy, that looks like a lot when spelled out. In fairness, the Powerbook was (partially) a business write-off.

But the point being, gifting yourself can actually be waaay more lucrative! Enjoy your dinner and whatever you decide to get yourself!

Ah, I see our lives are going in a parallel direction in this manner.

Alan told me "everything you want is too expensive. Can't your shopping trip the other day be your gift?" Um, no. Then he said he priced Tag Heuer watches and they're too expensive. Um, dude. I don't want a Tag watch. My fake is a pretty good fake and cost hundreds less. Why he thought he should get me that is beyond me. I told him Coach or Nikon would do nicely. We'll see. I'm not holding my breath.

Becky, you and I can go shopping together.
eh, Richard doesn't seem to get the birthday or Christmas event sort of thing. After forgetting that first year, he knows he can't forget again. And I'm not going to let him forget. I flat out ask him if he wants a list (Amazon only - wuss that he is) or if he wants to call my best friend for help. He always says that he'll take the list (and she always emails him anyway!) He still won't do the Christmas stocking thing, and that kind of bums me, but my friend still mails me a stocking, so at least I get one.

Richard on the other hand never really wants anything. He's the type that gets it when he wants it. And so far, nearly all of his wants have been real biz expenses (new computer, new programs, new tech gadgets, new camera, new lens, etc) so I tend to feel gypped out of the whole shopping experience. He's also horrible at accepting gifts. His family tend to only get him gift cards (and I usually end up spending them!)

But have a happy, happy birthday! I think some private pilates instruction and a yummy dinner out sound just fine!
I saw on CC that it is your birthday, and thought that I would pop over and give you my best wishes! I'm sorry your DH is such a dork about birthdays. If it makes you feel any better, I've been not-so-subtly hinting to my DH that I'm really stressed out and feeling down and some gd flowers would be awfully nice, and I've seen neither hide nor hair of them as of yet. And we've only been married since April. :-P

So anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :-D

Happy Birthday!!

I hope dinner tonight and the pilates session are fabulous!
